Other Health Concerns & Cancer Treatment Support

A wide variety of health concerns can be treated with acupuncture and oriental medicine. The World Health Organization (WHO) has published a list of medical conditions that respond well to acupuncture. Based on research over the last several years, I believe this list is outdated since it does not include additional areas where acupuncture has been shown to be effective. Internal medicine problems are generally most effectively treated with herbal and nutritional medicine, lifestyle modification, etc., although acupuncture can be utilized as well. These treatment methods are available at our clinic.

In addition to acupuncture, we also make use of nutritional and herbal medicine, when needed, which can add significantly to the success of a treatment plan.   Although we emphasize the treatment of pain, injuries and women's health problems, we have been treating a wide variety of health concerns since 1992.

If you have any questions about the use of acupuncture for your situation, either send an an email to pacm@mtaonline.net or come in for a free consulation.  Our number is 745-7928

Cancer Treatment Support

Cancer is increasingly prevalent in our world and it severely impacts the lives of those it touches. Progress is being made and we now have a variety of promising treatments that are currently available or are actively being researched. Some of the promising treatments include targeted therapies such as cancer vaccines, genetic treatments and more.   Standard treatments of surgery, radiation and cytotoxic chemotherapy remain the cornerstone of treatment.

Natural medicine has much to offer in the integrative treatment of cancer. These include:

Supportive Care

Supportive care does not actively seek to address the cancer specifically, but rather addresses the side effects of standard treatment approaches. For example, common side effects of treatment might include fatigue, nausea, weight loss, weakened immune system, stress and more. Acupuncture has become a common and widely accepted approach to managing many of these symptoms. Herbal medicine, nutritional support and dietary approaches will frequently reduce these common complaints.

Integrative Cancer Treatment

We strongly believe in the use of adjunctive therapies to enhance the effects of conventional treatment. This is a controversial topic, one that is embraced by some oncologists and rejected by others. There are many supplements that can be utilized based on the type of cancer being addressed. Some treatments are cytotoxic such as artemisinin and its derivatives, some are potent supporters of the immune system, some enhance apoptosis (programed cell death) and others appear to block certain growth factors involved in the proliferation of cancer. Dietary approaches such as the ketogenic diet and others appear to be useful due to their ability, potentially anyway, to alter the metabolism of a cancer cell.

Natural medicine does not have a cure for cancer, no one does. But we believe adjunctive and supportive therapies play an important role in supporting your treatment. At your initial appointment we discuss not only the supportive approaches we offer, but other promising integrative therapies offered elsewhere.
