PAIN THERMOGRAPHY
Pain Assessment & Evaluation
When you arrive for your first appointment a thorough history and
exam will be completed. The history and exam is typically based on
both the Western and Chinese medical model. This allows for a more
complete assessment of your situation. Depending on the type and
location of the pain, thermographic images may be taken to further
evaluate the problem. For additional information on thermography
see the short discussion below. Our
Pain Thermography page provides a more detailed discussion and
several thermographic images.
Assessment & Evaluation
Effective pain treatment begins with proper assessment. In
addition to the typical physical assessment you are accustomed too,
we include, when indicated, the use of thermographic imaging.
Medical thermography has multiple uses including pain assessment,
neurovascular assessment and breast cancer screening.
Thermographic imaging is physiologic rather than anatomical.
What this means is thermography is able to "see" the bodies response
to pain rather than an anatomical abnormality that may be present.
This allows for substantially better evaluation of pain. Many
causes of pain are not visible with anatomic imaging (x-ray, MRI,
CT, etc.), but are with thermography. Some examples include,
plantar fasciitis, whiplash, fibromyalgia, RSD (CRPS), etc.
Simply put, better assessment results in better treatment. For
additional information on thermal imaging and sample images please
go to our
Pain Thermography page.
