Pain and Neurovascular Imaging
Thermal imaging is a non-invasive procedure which is useful in
detecting the origin and extent of pain, both chronic and acute. Additionally, thermal imaging is used to monitor response to
treatment, circulation and nerve entrapment. Common indications
include, but are not limited to:
| Complex Pain Syndromes |
Migraines |
| Fibromyalgia |
Pain related to circulation |
| Injuries / Back & Neck Pain |
Nerve root impingement |
| Inflammation |
Undiagnosed Pain |
Other imaging procedures such as x-ray, CAT, MRI are images of
anatomical changes, thermal imaging has the ability to measure
physiological changes.
Thermal imaging is painless and 100% safe as no ionizing radiation
is used and there are no side effects. Thermal imaging can be used
in conjunction with other imaging procedures if necessary.
Imaging can be in a region of interest such as the neck, or much
larger areas, including the entire body.
Procedure
Pre-examination Preparation: Pre-examination preparation
instructions are of great importance in decreasing thermal
artifacts. Please follow these instructions exactly.
-
No sun bathing of the area to be
imaged 5 days prior to the exam.
-
No use of lotions, creams, powders, or
makeup on the body area in question the day of the exam.
-
For upper body imaging, no use of
deodorants or antiperspirants the day of the exam.
-
If any body areas included in the
images are to be shaved, this should be done the evening before
the exam or at least 4 hours prior to examination.
-
No physical therapy, EMS, TENS,
ultrasound treatment, acupuncture, chiropractic, physical
stimulation, hot or cold pack use in the area to be imaged for 24 hours before the exam.
-
No exercise 4 hours prior to the exam.
