Acupuncture is a treatment method that dates back thousands of years and is capable of treating a wide variety of health problems and also is beneficial for maintaining health. One area where acupuncture excels is the treatment of pain and injuries. In most acupuncture practices, the treatment of pain and injuries represents the majority of the patient population. Although different forms of healing have much to offer, for example Chiropractic and Physical Therapy, I believe you will find acupuncture to be extremely effective, cost efficient, and quick to provide results. Acupuncture is not simply a symptomatic treatment. The goal is to address the underlying cause of the pain.  When this is not possible, symptomatic relief becomes the goal.

The mechanism of action, or put differently, how acupuncture works, has been studied extensively. For additional information please see the explanation under Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine, on our home page. Numerous studies, outcome based clinical trials, blinded trials, etc., have shown acupuncture to be very beneficial. Many of these studies can be quickly accessed over the internet. The NIH office of Alternative Medicine, Medline and others are good starting places.

So what type of pain does acupuncture treat? The list is actually rather extensive, but commonly treated problems include:
