Treatment Modalities

We bring you the medical wisdom of the past and present and combine it with the latest technology to assist you in reaching your maximum potential for health.  Let us help you live a healthy and pain free life.

Following is a short description of the various treatment methods utilized in our clinic. If you have questions please come in for a no cost consultation or email us.

Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine

Acupuncture is a method of healing which has proven itself over time to be an effective treatment modality for many health concerns.  A considerable amount of recent and ongoing research supports its effectiveness.  The NIH (National Institutes of Health) position paper on acupuncture can be found by going to our links page.  Acupuncture is part of a larger system of health care which is inclusive of herbal medicine, dietary therapy, massage and lifestyle considerations.  For your safety and comfort only disposable needles are used.

Call and ask for the brochure "Modern Research & Acupuncture".  We would be happy to send you one.  Additionally we will include a Health Pass entitling you to a discount on your first appointment should you decide to receive care through our office.  This offer is only available to new patients.

Laser Therapy / Laser Acupuncture

Laser therapy can also be considered a form of “no needle” acupuncture.  Low Level Laser Therapy, or LLLT, is an FDA approved medical device.  It is approved for the treatment of a variety of soft and connective tissue disorders as well as certain neurological disorders.

Through the action of photo-stimulation of light reactive biological receptors (chromophores) in the body, LLLT has demonstrated the ability to significantly accelerate and enhance the body’s natural defense and repair in the presence of injury, inflammation and certain disease processes.  LLLT is 100 percent safe and painless.

LLLT is useful in many areas, some of which include Muscle pain, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Plantar Fasciitis, Sciatica, Tendonitis, Bursitis, Neuralgia (nerve pain), arthritis, frozen shoulder, Post Herpetic Neuralgia, Fibromyalgia, Strains and Sprains, Back pain, Neck pain, Whiplash injuries and many others.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Our clinic primarily uses Chinese herbal medicine which is one of the oldest forms of herbal medicine.  Herbal medicine is capable of treating a wide range of health concerns.  Our clinic frequently utilizes herbal medicine in the treatment of gynecological problems such as premenstrual syndrome, menstrual cramping, breast pathology & pain, as an alternative to hormone replacement therapy during menopause and in other areas.  Herbal medicine is also frequently used in inflammatory conditions such as bursitis or tendonitis, injuries and pain management.  Herbal medicine has many other uses including the treatment of infections, high blood pressure, digestive problems, asthma and many other health issues.  Professionally administered herbal medicine can have a significant impact on your health and is capable of replacing many pharmaceuticals and in many cases work considerably better than pharmaceuticals, generally without side effects.

Our herb formulas are generally patient specific formulations.  What this means is we rarely use pre-made formulas but rather create an herb formula specific for your needs.  Formulas may contain only a few herbs or may contain 20 or more.

Nutritional Therapy

Proper nutrition is the cornerstone of good health.  Health problems may be related to nutritional deficiency or may respond to therapeutic doses of nutritional supplements.  We believe appropriately utilized nutritional therapy should be a part of health care when indicated.  If health can be improved by giving the body what it needs – proper nutrition, why treat the body medicinally with herbs or pharmaceuticals?  Give the body what it needs to function properly, and then treat with herbal medicine if necessary.

Micro-current therapy

Microcurrent therapy has sometimes been referred to as “no needle acupuncture” because you can use minute microcurrents to stimulate acupuncture points.  Our bodies are bioelectric and acupuncture points and meridians are electrical in nature.  Injury and disease alter the normal flow of electricity in the area of injury or pathology, or throughout the entire body.  We know for example that in an area of injury an excess of electrons develops.  This results in pain and inflammation.  Microcurrent reestablishes normal electric charges in the area which results in decrease in pain and inflammation and the accelerated healing of the tissue.

Microcurrents are 100 percent safe and are not felt by the patient.  This is a powerful treatment modality we are proud to offer.  Most acupuncture clinics do not offer microcurrent therapy, but we have found it to be indispensable in helping our patients heal.

Medical Thermography

Medical thermography has multiple uses.  It allows us to “see” pain and injury distribution, evaluated peripheral nerve and circulation quality.  Breast thermography is an excellent method of evaluating breast health and the presence of malignant pathology.  We are very excited to be offering this service to South Central Alaska.  Additional information and images can be found in the pain thermography and breast thermography sections of out web site.

If you have any questions about the benefits of thermography in your specific situation, please give us a call.
